Colleagues joined Suzette Myers, supervisor of Centralized Transcription in Health Information Management, for a retirement celebration on June 29. She began her career with Baptist Memorial Health Care in 1970 as a birth certificate clerk at Baptist Memorial Hospital on Union Avenue in Memphis, Tennessee. Myers transferred to the Corporate Office when the hospital closed in 2000.

After receiving encouragement from her director, Myers began training to become a medical transcriptionist. She later became the supervisor of the transcription department.

“If you’ve dealt with dictation and transcription in any manner over the years, you’ve most likely been assisted by Suzette Myers,” said Angela Baker, director of Health Information Management for Baptist Memorial. “She has worked with many providers and their staff to ensure quality reports for patient care were provided in a timely manner.”

Myers has seen many changes over the years in her field. In the 1970s, transcription was performed with IBM Selectric typewriters that used various colors of paper for different types of reports. Each report had up to four carbon copy pages. Any mistakes had to be corrected for all copies. In the 1980s, the transcription team transitioned to computers.

“Suzette has served her team and Baptist Memorial with empathy, compassion and a desire to go above and beyond in all that she does,” Baker said. “She will be dearly missed.”
