Dr. Raymond Osarogiagbon, chief scientist for Baptist Memorial Health Care and director of the Multidisciplinary Thoracic Oncology Program and the Thoracic Oncology Research Group for Baptist Cancer Center, is the senior author of a special report exploring access to cancer clinical trials in the U.S. It was published on Oct. 6, 2025, in JCO Oncology Practice, an American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Journal.
“ASCO State of Cancer Care in America Special Report 2025: Access to Cancer Clinical Trials in the United States” describes the essential role clinical trials play in improving cancer care and patient outcomes, the current challenges to access and steps taken by ASCO to make clinical trials more accessible. “This new report reveals that in the U.S., only 7% of patients with cancer participate in clinical trials,” said Osarogiagbon. “Change can happen, and a greater number of patients can be represented with improved access to decentralized clinical trials available at nontraditional sites. Meeting patients where they are can help enhance recruitment, improve retention and accelerate the pace of cancer research.”
Osarogiagbon is a past chair of ASCO’s Clinical Research Committee.
