Dr. Angela Campbell and Dr. Veronica Frank, both with Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis’ Family Medicine Residency Program, recently taught a workshop titled “Culinary Medicine: Practical Strategies for Nutrition Counseling” at Baptist Health Sciences University College of Osteopathic Medicine (BUCOM).
BUCOM faculty members Dr. Elizabeth Browning and Tyler Roche, Ph.D., helped organize and implement the workshop.
Second-year BUCOM students learned about evidence-based nutrition and food recommendations, such as eating whole, unprocessed fiber-rich foods, for the prevention and treatment of diseases. During the workshop, students put their skills into practice by making recipes that emphasized whole foods.
“The workshop presented practical advice that the students can take into the clinical environment as they advance into their third year of training,” Campbell said.
