Baptist Women’s Health Center Opens Resource Room

Baptist Women’s Health Center recently opened a dedicated space for women to meet with doctors, nurses and genetic counselors to discuss diagnoses, explore treatment options and connect with support services that encourage healing and hope. The Resource Room also provides a quiet area for research and reflection with comfortable seating and reading materials.

“Patient-centered care is important to us. A cancer diagnosis can be overwhelming, but no one should face it alone,” said Dr. Lynn Gayden, medical director of Baptist Women’s Health Center. “As doctors, it’s our responsibility to create a safe space where patients feel heard, supported and have access to clear, compassionate resources that help them navigate every step of their journey.”

The recent expansion of Baptist Women’s Health Center not only added square footage, new equipment and services, it also created this space to help women feel seen, supported and empowered throughout their health journey.

“As we planned for the expansion to add an additional bone density scanner and contrast-enhanced mammograms, we also wanted to provide a community space for our support groups, for genetic counselors to meet with families and for nurse one-on-one meetings with patients,” said Jennifer Martinez, administrative director for Baptist Women’s Health Center. “The Resource Room was created to hold all of the health information centered around mammography to diagnosis, treatment options, support for loved ones, genetics and breast cancer survivorship.”

Stephanie Corder, RN, head nurse at the Comprehensive Breast Health Center at Baptist Memorial Hospital for Women, said, “The Resource Room allows us to explain the details of a patient’s treatment and how to lower risks in an intimate and relaxing environment. It is full of information to empower our patients to find support for their loved ones and to explore intimate topics that they may not wish to openly discuss.”
