Soul Food Café
Baptist Union City recently hosted Soul Food Café at Refuge Mission, located on the fairgrounds in Union City. At the gathering, several team members and their families served food to those in need of a good meal. The food was provided by Chef Corey Lindhe and his team at Baptist Union City. Staff Development Specialist India Lewis led training focused on bandaging a sprain.
“The value of serving is a priority value that we seek to instill in all our team members. Our goal is for them to be part of a culture that serves inside the hospital and outside in our community,” said Director of Pastoral Care and Chaplain Michael Dennison. “We encourage our staff and their families to be a part of God’s plan to go and share the love of Jesus Christ.”
Obion County Public Library Children’s Story Time
Admissions Representatives Anna Graves and Karlie Clapper recently represented Baptist Union City at the Obion County Public Library Children’s Story Time Program.
The library’s current theme is “Unearth a Story” with a focus on dinosaurs. Graves and Clapper read two books written by Jane Yolen and illustrated by Mark Teague — “How Do Dinosaurs Say Goodnight?” and “How Do Dinosaurs Show Good Manners?” During the event, the children were surprised by a guest appearance of Elmo, provided by the hospital.
Baptist Union City CEO and Administrator Skipper Bondurant said, “I’m always encouraged when I see our staff taking time to invest in children. We have a great relationship with the library, and I’m glad we were able to provide such a positive environment for the kids and their parents.”
The hospital also joins with the library for displays, health care fairs and training.
Hope Center Ministries
Baptist Union City team members and their families recently joined to serve meals and offer encouragement to men in addiction recovery at Hope Center Ministries, a nonprofit focused on restoring lives, families and communities. Each year, Baptist Union City provides a meal at the center.
“It’s the mission and values of this ministry that motivate and inspire our team members to come alongside to help serve,” Bondurant said. “We’re always honored to provide support where God is at work. Our food services staff worked diligently to bless these men, and I am proud of their work.”
Last year, CT Lead Technologist Traci Bowlin served barbecue to the residents at Hope Center Ministries. This year she brought along her daughter, Rachel, and invited colleague, Echocardiographer Technologist Allison Richardson. Dennison joined them to serve the meal and provide encouragement.
Cookie Extravaganza
Community members also give back to Baptist Union City. This spring, the Women on Mission group at Second Baptist Church in Union City held its quarterly Cookie Extravaganza for Baptist Union City team members and the community.
“We really enjoy the excitement of meeting with the staff and providing them with a great snack,” said Diana Guynn, a member of the Women on Mission group.
The group baked more than 450 cookies to distribute. Each treat was packaged with the biblical scripture John 3:16: “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.”
