Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City team members have provided education and training at several community events this year. Please keep reading to learn more about how the hospital and its Health Equity department are working to educate the surrounding communities on several health-related topics.
Community Health Fair at Eddie Cox Senior Center in Union City
Baptist Union City team members from Physical Therapy, Radiology and Pastoral Care represented the hospital’s Health Equity team as they provided health education to attendees of the community health fair held at the Eddie Cox Senior Center in Union City in May.
“Tammy Albright is crucial to helping the hospital stay engaged with the community,” said Chaplain Michael Dennison, director of Pastoral Care. “She coordinates team members to represent the hospital and provide a great experience for those attending events.”
Pelvic Health Physical Therapy Educational Program
Amy Davis, director of Rehabilitation at Baptist Union City, provided an educational program on pelvic health physical therapy to members of Second Baptist Church of Union City’s Women on a Mission group in July. Group members also toured the hospital. The program was a collaboration between the Health Equity, Pastoral Care and Physical Therapy departments.
CPR Training at Soul Food Café
In July, India Lewis, staff development specialist at Baptist Union City, provided hands-only CPR training to around 100 community members at Soul Food Café, which serves those in need of a good meal. Team members also provided heart attack prevention education. The training and education were a collaborative effort initiated by the Health Equity, Nursing and Pastoral Care departments.
Several Baptist Union City team members, managers and directors served food at Soul Food Café, sponsored by the Obion County Ministerial Association and Baptist Union City.
Tiptonville Senior Citizens Center Educational Programs
Baptist Union City hosted its second educational program in August at the Tiptonville Senior Citizens Center. The program is a joint effort between the hospital’s Health Equity and Pastoral Care departments. Guest speakers from Baptist Union City included Ashley Cherry, manager of Infection Prevention and Employee Health; Casey Jenkins, manager of Risk Management; and Chaplain Dennison.
Chaplain Dennison opened the meeting with prayer and a devotion that focused on James 1:2–4. Cherry emphasized the importance of proper hand hygiene and the benefits of flu vaccines. Jenkins spoke on the value of completing individualized advance directives.
During the first educational program at the Tiptonville Senior Citizens Center, guest speakers from Baptist Union City included Fernando Munoz, a Nuclear Medicine lead technologist; Tammy Albright, Performance Improvement Coordinator; and Chaplain Dennison.
Baptist Union City Community Health Fair
Baptist Union City hosted a community health fair on Thursday, August 28 with refreshments and giveaways. Free services offered to the community included blood pressure checks, oxygen saturation checks, medication counseling, balance testing, heart risk quiz and sleep quiz.
Baptist Union City team members from several departments participated with demonstrations and education, including Physical Therapy, Cardiac Rehabilitation, Radiology, Pharmacy and Nutrition Services.
