Baptist Tipton Draws Hundreds for Drug Take Back Event

Baptist Memorial Hospital-Tipton served as a Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) medication collection site on National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 26. Tipton Prevents and other community organizations joined with Baptist Tipton to host the highly successful event, which attracted more than 500 attendees with 294 pounds of unused or expired prescription medications.

The event also featured CPR demonstrations, naloxone training and distribution, medication lock box giveaways, first responder meet and greets, helicopter tours, face painting, a bounce house, food trucks and more.

“Medication take back events offer critical benefits to the community by preventing prescription medicine misuse, reducing the risk of accidental poisonings and overdoses, and protecting the environment from improper medication disposal,” said Sierra Butler, project manager for Baptist Center of Excellence in Addiction Medicine. “This event also raised awareness about the importance of responsible medication management and helped strengthen community efforts to respond to the opioid crisis.”
