Baptist Oktibbeha County Regains Level III Trauma Center Designation

Baptist Memorial Hospital-Oktibbeha County has regained its level III trauma center and primary pediatric center designation. The hospital last held the official designation in 2024.

“This is an exciting achievement for Baptist Oktibbeha County and Starkville,” said Mac Flynt, CEO and administrator of Baptist Oktibbeha County. “Our staff has worked diligently to meet stringent criteria to regain this designation, and I appreciate their dedication. We are committed to meeting the highest standards and providing extraordinary care for patients of different levels in this community.”

Level III trauma hospitals can provide prompt assessment, resuscitation, emergency operations and stabilization, as well as arrange for transfer to a facility that can provide definitive trauma care when needed. Level III trauma centers also provide continuous general surgical coverage.

“This is a significant achievement for our hospital and community. It was important to me and our medical team that we be recognized for providing this superior level of care for Oktibbeha County,” said Dr. J. Travis Methvin, director of Trauma for Baptist Oktibbeha County. “Our medical staff has worked together for months so we could achieve this designation and provide care our community can trust.”

Baptist Oktibbeha County will maintain the level III trauma designation for three years.
