Baptist Nurses Win DAISY Awards

Baptist Memorial Hospital nurses received the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses for their compassion and dedication. Patients, family members or colleagues nominated nurses at a number of Baptist Memorial hospitals. Keep reading to find out more about these outstanding nurses.

Baptist Anderson Regional Medical Center

Camryn Brewer, registered nurse in Medical-Surgical on 3 East, earned the DAISY Award for her compassion and kindness after being nominated by the daughter of a patient who was put on hospice. “I was so emotional about this decision and went up to 3 East to speak to her nurse. Camryn was her nurse that day. What a godsend Camyrn was to me. She was so informative and looked at me with such compassion as she told me what would transpire.”

A patient’s family member nominated Kaitlin Dean, registered nurse in the Intensive Care Unit, for a DAISY Award for her kind and compassionate spirit. The nominator said, “My grandmother was in ICU for three days and Kaitlin cared for her with sympathy and compassion as if she were her own family. Kaitlin answered all our questions while making the family feel confident in our grandmother’s well-being.”

Baptist Memorial Hospital-Booneville

A colleague nominated Teresa Huguley, registered nurse in the Senior Care unit, for a DAISY Award for her dedication and skills. “I have observed with astonishment Teresa’s abilities and interaction with her patients,” said the nominator. “Teresa brings a sense of order, positive influence and professionalism to her department.”

Baptist Memorial Hospital-Calhoun

Dawn Sansing, registered nurse in Float Pool, won the DAISY Award for her “exceptional dedication, compassion and commitment to patient care.” The nominator said, “Dawn is a true team player who willingly steps in wherever and whenever she is needed, always with a positive attitude. Dawn is thorough in her patient care, ensuring every patient receives the attention, support and high-quality care they deserve. Her kindness, professionalism and willingness to go the extra mile make a lasting impact on both patients and colleagues.”

Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto

A patient’s family member nominated Noheemot “Noni” Oni, registered nurse in the Intensive Care Step-down unit, for the DAISY Award. “Noni maintained a high level of professionalism and took the time to explain everything clearly, ensuring we understood all aspects of my mother’s care,” said the nominator. “Even when my mother declined certain medications and treatments, Noni collaborated with the doctors to find suitable alternatives.”

Baptist Memorial Hospital-Tipton

Heather Bridges, registered nurse in the Emergency department, won the DAISY Award after receiving multiple nominations from patients who appreciated her remarkable compassion and skills. One nominator who had experienced a decade of health issues wrote, “She was the first nurse to ever truly make me feel like a human being that mattered and was genuinely cared about as a person.”

Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union City

A patient nominated Lyndia Riddle, registered nurse in Labor and Delivery, for a DAISY Award for the compassion shown to her during a difficult pregnancy. The patient said, “Anytime we went in and Lyndia was there, she assured us that we were not crazy for feeling worried and did everything she could to ease our minds each and every time. She cried with us. She prayed with us. She fought with us to make sure our daughter made it into this world.”

Mississippi Baptist Medical Center

A patient nominated Jessica Davis, registered nurse in Medical-Surgical on 5 South, for the DAISY Award for her compassion. The nominator praised Davis for being “an empathetic, supportive presence” who anticipated his needs. He said, “Her uplifting attitude and dry sense of humor calmed me and helped me to feel at home.”

Toni Freeman-Plotkin, registered nurse in Medical-Surgical on 1 North, was nominated by a patient’s family member for her exceptional care and compassion. “She treated us as part of her extended family,” said the nominator. “She not only provided outstanding medical care, but also offered emotional support that made us feel safe and cared for.”
