Baptist Leake and NEA Baptist Host Community Heart Events

Baptist Memorial Hospital-Leake recently hosted a heart healthy luncheon, and NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital held heart day. Both events featured health screenings and education for community members.

Baptist Leake Heart Healthy Luncheon

Dr. Jordan Jackson, a family medicine physician, gave a presentation on becoming heart healthy by increasing steps each day at the Baptist Leake Heart Healthy Luncheon on Feb. 20. Baptist Leake team members also offered blood pressure and glucose screenings and heart health education.

Members of the Junior Beta Club from Leake Central Junior High School assisted with the event. Attendees enjoyed door prizes and meeting with local home health agencies and wound care specialists.

NEA Baptist Heart Day

The NEA Baptist Heart Day event, held on Feb. 13, offered free lab work, including lipid panels and A1C tests to measure blood sugar levels. Other free screenings included electrocardiogram (EKG) and checks for vascular issues, such as peripheral artery disease. Attendees who qualified received a cardiac calcium CT scan.

Baptist team members also provided education on hands-only CPR and the signs and risk factors for chronic heart conditions. NEA Baptist heart and vascular team members met with attendees at booths.
