Dr. Jiang Cui, cardiologist with Stern Cardiovascular, implanted the first Avertix Medical Guardian heart attack detection and warning system at Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto on Friday, March 21.

Guardian is an implantable cardiac device that represents a significant advancement in cardiac care, offering continuous monitoring for patients at high risk of recurring acute coronary syndrome (ACS) events. The system alerts patients to an ACS event by vibrating in the chest and providing audible and visual alerts on a handheld device.

Unlike traditional methods that rely heavily on patients recognizing symptoms, Guardian adds an extra layer of security by constantly monitoring the heart for signs of inadequate blood supply, even in the absence of symptoms.
