Baptist Memorial Hospital-Tipton served as a Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) medication collection site for the 30th National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on April 25.
First responders and Tipton Prevents, the local prevention coalition, joined with Baptist Tipton to host the successful event, which attracted more than 300 attendees and resulted in the collection of 30 pounds of unused or expired prescription medications.
“This event reflects Baptist Tipton’s ongoing commitment to prevention, education and community health,” said Sierra Butler, project manager for Baptist Center of Excellence in Addiction Medicine. “In addition to helping reduce the risk of prescription drug misuse and environmental harm, the event provided an opportunity to raise awareness of various hospital services while connecting directly with the Tipton County community.”
Hospital awareness stations highlighted CPR training, safe sleep demonstrations, a teddy bear breathing activity, vital sign readings, surgery games and educational activities on physical, occupational and speech therapy.
The family-friendly event also featured helicopter tours, inflatables, food, medication lockbox giveaways and first-responder meet and greets.
