Baptist University Students Provide Screenings at 2026 Southern Heritage Classic

Baptist Memorial Health Care sponsored the 2026 Southern Heritage Classic, and Baptist Health Sciences University College of Osteopathic Medicine (BUCOM) and College of Nursing faculty and students offered blood pressure screenings in the tailgating area on Tiger Lane.

The game featured the Alcorn State Braves and the Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions college football teams at Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium in Memphis on Sept. 12. The Braves claimed a 53-51 victory in a double-overtime game. Nearly 22,000 fans attended the game with a tailgating crowd of more than 10,000.

“I enjoyed volunteering at the Southern Heritage Classic and getting to interact with so many people in the Memphis community,” said Aastha Banga, a BUCOM medical student. “I met nursing students and faculty and enjoyed getting to work alongside them while representing BUCOM and Baptist Memorial outside of the classroom.”
