Team members with the Baptist Heart Institute Heart Transplant Program hosted patients and other guests on Friday, April 11, at a ceremony celebrating life and organ donation during National Donate Life Month.
The ceremony included raising the Donate Life flag in honor of all who have given the gift of life through organ and tissue donation, as well as the “planting” of 585 pinwheels in the shape of a heart in front of the hospital.
The pinwheels, with eight blades symbolizing the eight lives that can be saved from each organ donor, represented the 93 lung transplants and 492 heart transplants performed at Baptist Heart Institute.
