Former local pastor Tom Sumrall recently retired from Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County’s board of directors after serving from 2006 to 2024.
During Rev. Sumrall’s 18-year tenure, the board supported broadening clinical services, expanding the emergency department, enhancing women’s health services, opening Baptist Cancer Center-Union County and introducing TeleHealth programs to improve access to specialized care. Baptist Union County also achieved numerous accolades for quality outcomes, patient satisfaction and patient safety during this period.
“Rev. Sumrall’s dedication and leadership have made a meaningful difference for Baptist Union County and our community,” said Ann Bishop, chief executive officer and administrator of Baptist Union County. “We are grateful for his years of service and wish him the best in retirement.”
Ann and Colt Doom, chair of the board of directors, honored Rev. Sumrall with a special gift in recognition of his years of service. During his tenure, Rev. Sumrall worked alongside Colt, the late Lugie Brown, Dr. John Stanford and Rusty Berryhill.
