Baptist Cancer Center and Baptist Memorial Health Care Foundation hosted the fifth annual Smash Cancer Tennis Tournament at Leftwich Tennis Center in Memphis on Saturday, Oct. 25.
The event attracted 27 tennis players and raised $13,500 to benefit the Baptist Cancer Center Patient Assistance Fund, which subsidizes care, medication-related expenses, transportation, lodging, meals and other support services for patients who need assistance.
Baptist physicians Dr. Salil Goorha, Dr. Donald Gravenor, Dr. Sohail Minhas, Dr. Osa Ogbeide, Dr. Muhammad Raza and Dr. Sailendra Vasireddy participated.
The community event also featured cancer screening information and booths from Baptist and sponsors. Attendees had the opportunity to tour the MEGA Colon, a walk-through, interactive educational exhibit that teaches visitors how to improve their overall colon health and reduce risks for colorectal cancer. The large-scale, inflatable model of the human colon shows polyps in the initial stages, advanced polyps, colorectal cancer and Crohn’s disease.
