Baptist Memorial Hospital nurses recently received the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses for their compassion and dedication after patients, family members or colleagues nominated them. Baptist Anderson Regional Medical Center
Family members nominated John Bates, registered nurse in the Emergency department, for a DAISY Award for his compassion and dedication while caring for their 90-year-old father before he passed away. “Mr. John Bates was unbelievably compassionate with the three of us. He came by regularly and asked if we needed anything,” said the nominator. “We believe Dad was reassured and calmed by Mr. Bates. This meant the world to us.”
Baptist Memorial Hospital-Collierville
Carolyn Chalmers, registered nurse in Medical-Surgical, won the DAISY Award after a patient nominated her for her compassion and attention to detail. The patient praised her “genuine, kind heart,” and said she’s a “phenomenal nurse and true asset to the profession.”
Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto
A patient’s family member nominated Cheri Lewis, registered nurse in the Pre-Post Cath department, for the DAISY Award for her clinical expertise, compassion and professionalism. “Her radiant smile and nurturing presence created an atmosphere of comfort and trust, while her gentle words of encouragement and wealth of knowledge guided both my husband and me through a challenging time,” said the nominator, who also praised Lewis for explaining medical concepts in a way that could be easily understood.
Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle
Heather Harpole, registered nurse in Nursery, won the DAISY Award for her compassion. She was nominated by a patient who had experienced a difficult pregnancy. “Heather didn’t just care for my baby; she helped heal me. Her kindness, her faith and her way of treating my baby like a blessing reminded me that God never left me, even in the darkest moments of pregnancy. She restored a hope I didn’t know I had lost. Heather Harpole is more than just an amazing nurse, she is a vessel of grace, compassion and light,” said the nominator.
Mississippi Baptist Medical Center
The parent of a pediatric patient nominated Madelyn Grimes, registered nurse in the Emergency department, for the DAISY Award for her compassion and dedication. The nominator said Grimes “interacted with our son and would kneel down to get on his eye level” and “never once seemed in a hurry to leave his side.” She also said Grimes “became a part of the family immediately.”
LaDona Peterson, registered nurse and case manager in the Newborn Intensive Care unit, won the DAISY Award for going above and beyond. The parent of a newborn with a rare medical condition nominated Peterson. The nominator praised Peterson for going the extra mile to bring comfort to the family. The parent said Peterson even personally delivered information on the diagnosis to the family at their home.
