Memphis Business Journal selected three Baptist team members as Health Care Heroes finalists. The honorees were recognized at the Memphis Botanic Garden on Thursday, Aug. 14, and profiled in the publication on Friday, Aug. 15.
The Health Care Heroes Program focuses on identifying and illuminating extraordinary contributors to the well-being and health of Memphians.
Dr. Sonia Eden, Health Care Provider, Physician Finalist
Dr. Sonia Eden is a neurosurgeon with Semmes Murphey Clinic. In her Memphis Business Journal profile, she shared that she cherishes her time in the operating room, treating brain and spine tumors and traumatic spine injury because of the immediate relief patients experience following nervous system surgery.
Melinda Wolfe, Health Care Provider, Non-physician Finalist
Melinda Wolfe, risk manager at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Collierville, told Memphis Business Journal that one of the common misconceptions about her profession is that risk managers only work when an event happens. Wolfe said risk managers are always working proactively behind the scenes to help ensure patient, employee and enterprise safety.
Dr. Dmitry Yaranov, Administrative Excellence Finalist
Dr. Dmitry Yaranov, Stern Cardiovascular cardiologist and program director for Advanced Heart Failure, Heart Transplant and Mechanical Circulatory Support with Baptist Heart Institute, shared with Memphis Business Journal that one of his career-defining moments was realizing he could “change the map” and help patients in rural communities receive more advanced care, including heart transplants.
