MBMC Promotes Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Mississippi Baptist Medical Center observed Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October with several community events. Baptist Cancer Center team members and mobile mammography unit staff participated in screenings and provided education. Baptist Health Foundation promoted three fundraising events, all benefiting its Fund for the Girls. MBMC also served as the flagship sponsor of the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Central Mississippi.

Screenings and Education

MBMC provided screenings and education at the Mississippi Department of Health’s Breast and Cervical Cancer Screening event at the Mississippi Trade Mart and businesses in the tri-county area, including Modine Manufacturing and Ergon.

Baptist’s Fund for the Girls

Baptist Health Foundation concentrated fundraising efforts on supporting Fund for the Girls, which makes breast cancer screenings available to women in Mississippi who cannot afford them. The Breast Cancer Awareness Walk and Fitness Competition at Baptist Healthplex at Mississippi College raised more than $3,000 for the fund. Siemens Energy held a Family Day for its employees with all donations benefiting the fund, while Nucor Steel Jackson held its annual golf tournament and silent auction fundraiser with a portion of proceeds benefiting the fund.

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Central Mississippi

Breast Cancer Awareness Month activities wrapped up with MBMC serving as the flagship sponsor of the American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer of Central Mississippi event. A team of 80 walkers from Baptist participated. The mobile mammography unit was on site, and Baptist Cancer Center staff distributed pink ribbons and educational material to all walkers. The event also featured a selfie station and a tribute tree to honor survivors.
