The Pleasant Hill Elementary School Choir and the Southaven High School Symphony Band filled Baptist DeSoto’s main entrance with patriotic music during Baptist DeSoto’s eighth annual Veterans Day event. Guests were treated to a free heart-healthy breakfast and free health screenings, and the DeSoto County Museum’s World War II memorabilia were on display during the event.
Members of the Army National Guard’s Project Package program were on hand to thank the hospital for collecting almost 8,000 shoeboxes full of toiletries and snacks to send to North Mississippi troops stationed overseas. DeSoto County school children were a big part of Baptist DeSoto’s Shoeboxes for Soldiers drive, and the three schools that collected the most boxes received physical education grants.
Mississippi State Representative Wanda Jennings also spoke during the event, and members of the Southaven Police Department presented the colors.
