Baptist Trinity Hospice, 6141 Walnut Grove Road, will host a volunteer training session on Saturday, Nov. 5 from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.
Training will include discussions on understanding the hospice philosophy and the hospice team concept; developing communication and listening skills; patient and caregiver rights; and spirituality, grief and family relations.
Hospice volunteers can serve in a variety of ways, including offering companionship and providing support to family members. Many work behind the scenes by answering phones, making comfort baskets and running errands. Others are more directly involved with patients and families by providing transportation, reading to patients, helping with Camp Good Grief or just holding a hand.
Baptist Trinity Hospice provides care and services to those with life-limiting illnesses and their family members. Although cancer remains one of the primary diagnoses for hospice patients, others with terminal illnesses, such as AIDS and congestive heart failure, also receive care in the program.
