Baptist DeSoto hosts stroke symposium

Baptist DeSoto’s inpatient rehabilitation center is hosting a stroke symposium called Surviving and Thriving: Cultivating a Full Life Post Stroke on Saturday, May 16 from 8 a.m. to noon at the hospital’s North Entrance.

The symposium is open to health care professionals and the general public and will address

• Stroke definition, signs and symptoms
• Primary causes and effects of stroke
• Stroke prevention and risk factors
• The role of nutrition in stroke prevention and recovery
• Therapeutic intervention benefits, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech
  therapy and recreational therapy.
• Available community resources and support for stroke survivors and caregivers

The Mississippi State Board of Physical Therapy approved the symposium for 4 CE credits, and the Professional Licensure Branch of the Mississippi State Department of Health approved it for 3.25 CE Credits for Occupational Therapy.
