Lung cancer is a serious disease that disproportionately affects our region. And during the past few years, our Baptist Cancer Center team has stepped up its efforts to fight it. Many have been clinical, including pioneering clinical research and starting an innovative screening program, and their success earned our lung cancer program a Center of Excellence designation.
While our team continues to make clinical breakthroughs, it has also taken on a new challenge: fundraising. The Baptist Cancer Center’s Thoracic Oncology Research Group has organized “Team THOR” to raise $5,000 for the Join the Fight 5K Walk/Run on April 21.
The walk is sponsored by the Bonnie J. Addario Lung Cancer Foundation, an organization whose goal – like ours – is to improve lung cancer care in community hospitals. We have partnered with the Addario Foundation for several years on a number of initiatives, and we are thrilled to bring their walk to Memphis for the first time. The money raised from the walk will support lung cancer patients, their caregivers and research.
Our Baptist Cancer Center team’s lifesaving work has given lung cancer patients hope that they can survive this disease. I am so proud of their success, and I am grateful that we can offer patients such leading-edge care. I have no doubt they will be as successful with their fundraising work as they have been with transforming lung cancer care in the Mid-South.
