Individual hospitals and their physicians control health care in Japan, and decisions are made by leaders rather than teams. The delegation was particularly interested in learning about the Baptist Management System (BMS). Ironically, despite the fact that BMS is based on Toyota principles, the Japanese health care system hasn’t typically embraced that line of thinking.
The 4½-hour visit included an overview of the Baptist system; presentations about our service lines, Baptist OneCare and BMS; and a tour of the Patient Placement Center.
