Baptist Surgeons Save a Patient’s Life by Removing His Heart

41-year-old Booneville resident Brian Pedigo struggled with heart disease for years before being referred to Baptist’s advanced heart failure clinic. After evaluating him, Baptist physicians determined his best shot at survival would be to remove his heart and replace it with two ventricular assist devices and a breast implant. A month after the surgery, he was discharged from the hospital. Despite not having a pulse or heart beat, he is feeling better than he has in years. His artificial heart will allow him to get stronger and hopefully become a heart transplant candidate.
