The Memphis Breast Cancer Consortium’s third annual “LIVE! Just As We Are Breast Cancer Summit” was held on Feb. 4 at the Temple of Deliverance Church of God in Christ – G.E. Patterson Family Life Youth Center. Working in partnership with West Cancer Center, Baptist Cancer Center and the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, the event drew more than 600 participants, including 223 first-time attendees and 168 breast cancer survivors.
Organized to help combat the breast cancer mortality rates and disparities for black women in Shelby County, the event included health care providers, legislators and guests. Onsite mammogram screenings were conducted by the mobile mammography units from Baptist and Methodist. Twenty-six organizations shared information about breast health at the event’s vendor fair.
