Baptist Memorial Health Care Foundation and Baptist Cancer Center hosted the second annual Sporting Clays for Cancer event on Friday, March 28 at the Sporting Club at Mallard’s Croft in Byhalia, Mississippi. Expanded this year to accommodate more participants and flights, the popular event raised $53,000 for Baptist Cancer Center’s Patient Assistance Fund, which subsidizes care, medication-related expenses, transportation, lodging, meals and other supportive services for cancer patients needing assistance.

Supporting our cancer patients in need of assistance is an important part of our mission,” said Denise Ward, senior development officer for Baptist Memorial Health Care Foundation.
Sporting Clays for Cancer had two flights, each with 18 teams consisting of four people for a total of 144 participants.
Morning Flight
- The winners of the morning flight were Daniel Pannell and his team: Austin Cupp, Josh Taylor and Arron Brigance. They had an overall score of 295.
- Second place went to the team lead by Robert Vest, chief operating officer of Baptist Medical Group. Other members of his team include Jeremy Bragg, William Cox and Michael Ray. They had an overall score of 248.
- Overall Sharp Shooter was Brett Bush with the Johnson Controls team.
Afternoon Flight
- The Turner Construction team won the afternoon flight with a score of 267. Team members include Ron Maynard, Cameron Wyatt, Tripp Watts and Hunter Niemi.
- Second place went to the Lehman Roberts team after a tiebreaker with the team led by Dr. David Engle, an gynecologic oncologist with Baptist Medical Group. The Lehman Roberts team included Will Castle, Tyler Jordan, Dylan Robinson and Cameron Collins. They had an overall score of 249.
- Overall Sharp Shooter was Steve Knych with Dr. Engle’s team.
Both morning and afternoon flights had multiple winners at the Green Target Station. They all donated their winnings to the BCC Patient Assistance Fund. Team members from Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto and Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi also participated in the event.
