Spence and Becky Wilson Baptist Children’s Hospital makes back-to-school fun, even for parents!

A colorful scene unfolded on July 23 in the main lobby of the Spence and Becky Wilson Baptist Children’s Hospital as PD Parrot mingled with kids and families who spent all morning getting ready for another school year.

PD Parrot’s Healthy Habitat Back to School Fair brought together parents, kids, 50 Baptist volunteers and 27 vendors who brought healthy information– disguised as fun. More than 100 children were screened for everything from eyesight to blood pressure.

Baptist gave away 16 backpacks filled with school supplies and goodies and more than 100 sports packs. Kids enjoyed Zumba with pediatrician Dr. Jamie Carver, a cooking demonstration by Morrison’s, a photo booth, face painting, and woodworking sponsored by Home Depot. Meanwhile, Baptist Medical Group Pediatric Surgery showed children a “play” operation, teaching anatomy at the same time.

Child Life Specialists held a Teddy Bear Clinic where kids could bring their favorite stuffed animal for a hospital visit.

Local vendors included Mid-South Therapy Dogs, Bartlett Dentistry and Hamilton Eye Institute among many others.
