Lucie Finley began her life in Baptist Women’s Hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), and she, like other newborns, wore a small beanie on her head.
More than a dozen years later, that memento was the inspiration for a special school project. Lucie had to design something that was meaningful to her and present it to her school. She chose to knit baby beanies, using hers as a pattern. Last week, she brought her work to the NICU physicians and staff who cared for her when she was a patient, and she donated the beanies to babies in the NICU.
