Baptist GI and Outpatient GI Lab in Jackson, Mississippi, held a ribbon cutting ceremony and open house on Thursday, March 2, to celebrate the recently opened facilities during Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. The Greater Jackson Chamber Partnership coordinated the event, attended by more than 50 people who enjoyed tours and refreshments.
Mississippi Baptist Medical Center observed Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month with Dress in Blue on Friday, March 3, along with tours of a giant inflated Super Colon from the American Cancer Society in the main lobby. More than 140 team members and guests toured the Super Colon to learn more about the progression of colorectal cancer.
“Colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer in both men and women in the U.S. It is the second leading cause of cancer-related death when the numbers for men and women are combined,” said Dr. Pegah Hosseini-Carroll with Baptist GI.
Dr. Pegah said that despite effective screening options, only about half of the eligible U.S. population has been screened for colon cancer. She encourages those eligible for colon cancer screening to talk with their doctors.
