Recent DAISY Award Winners Demonstrate Empathy and Compassion with All They Encounter

Stacey Johnson-Black, RN at Baptist Collierville, works in the oncology unit. Her nominator had been in and out of the hospital for years, when a trip to Baptist Collierville for chest pains turned out to be esophageal cancer. The nominator wrote that Stacey took care of her and made her feel like she was the only patient there. The nominator had never had a nurse who took such good care of her while expressing true empathy.

Cheyenne McCollum, BSN, RN at Baptist Union County, works on the med-surg unit. She was nominated by multiple patients for the care she demonstrated toward them. She made them feel valuable while maintaining compassion and professionalism. Cheyenne also volunteers as a preceptor for students, and they acknowledge that she treats them like they matter and cares about their learning experience.
