Baptist Women’s Health Center held its annual Pink On and Groove On event on Friday, Oct. 25. The celebration honored more than 100 breast cancer survivors and promoted breast cancer awareness and prevention. Many of the survivors dressed in their favorite pink outfits for a fun costume contest with prizes for originality, creativity and presentation. Staff, nurses and physicians joined the festivities to support survivors.
“As a three-time breast cancer survivor, I enjoy the camaraderie, sisterhood and bond that I have forged with these women. They deserve to be celebrated and acknowledged for their strength, courage and survivorship,” said Jennifer Coleman, outreach and event coordinator for Baptist Women’s Health Center.
Attendees enjoyed chair yoga, line dancing with Keep It Moving Cardio Line Dance and fun photos with photographer Reginald Johnson of 10:15 Take The Shot Studios. Reginald rang the bell for all survivors and patients currently going through treatment. The final bell honored Ellie Young, a University of Tennessee Health Science Center student who recently lost her life at a breast cancer awareness walk.
Several community partners provided giveaways and door prizes, including A Fitting Place, a post-mastectomy wear specialist, and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc., whose philanthropy focus is supporting breast cancer patients. Other community partners included Mary Kay and Ms. D’s Wings.
