The Mississippi Society of Health-System Pharmacists (MSHP) recognized Hope Welch, PharmD, BCOP, as the 2023 MSHP Health-System Pharmacist of the Year. She is a clinical oncology pharmacist at Baptist Cancer Center-Golden Triangle Columbus.
Chris Ayers, past president of MSHP, presented the award to Hope at MSHP’s annual meeting this summer in Biloxi, Mississippi.
Hope earned her board certification in oncology pharmacy (BCOP) in 2022 and is one of only approximately 4,000 BCOP pharmacists in the U.S.
“She is a leader in oncology pharmacy and continually works to remain an expert in this very challenging field,” said Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle Pharmacy Director Monica McGill, who nominated her. “She participates in system oncology pharmacy decision-making and leads her pharmacy area at Baptist Cancer Center in Columbus. She also works with our pharmacy residents and participates in research through the residency program.”
Hope is a graduate of the University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy and completed her pharmacy residency at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, Tennessee. She has worked at Baptist Golden Triangle since 2012.
Qualifications for the MSHP Health-System Pharmacist of the Year award include outstanding cooperation with the entire health care team, service to the profession of health-systems pharmacy, service to the community and contributions to the progress of health-systems pharmacy.
