Pharmacy Director Nina Smothers Retires after 47 Years of Service

Baptist Carroll County Director of Pharmacy Nina Smothers, DPh, MBA, retired recently after serving Baptist for 47 years.

Dr. Smothers began her career at Baptist Carroll County (known at the time as Carroll County General Hospital) in 1975 as the pharmacy director and ancillary services manager. She organized the hospital’s pharmacy department.

“My peers have provided great learning opportunities. The people and relationships I have built in my various roles remain the greatest treasure of my career. Thank you for this moment of reflection and appreciation,” said Dr. Smothers, who earned an MBA in health services management in 1998.

The new director of pharmacy at Baptist Carroll County is Brianna McKinney, PharmD, MBA, of McKenzie, Tennessee.

“Nina and I have bonded over our love for the profession of pharmacy and our shared communities. Nina dedicated 47 years to serving patients, and I am sincerely humbled to follow her example and assume the role of director of pharmacy. I’m excited and thankful for the opportunity to help provide care at Baptist Carroll County,” said Dr. McKinney.

Dr. Smothers served as president of the Tennessee Society of Health-System Pharmacists (TSHP) from 2001 to 2002 and worked on various committees within TSHP. She earned the 2002 TSHP Health-System Pharmacist of the Year Award.

In 2015, Dr. Smothers served as president of the Tennessee Board of Pharmacy and made significant professional contributions to moving the profession of pharmacy forward in patient care. In 2016, she earned the Pharmacist of the Year award from the Tennessee Pharmacists Association (TPA).

Dr. Smothers has also contributed to her community though her work with the Huntingdon Business and Professional Women’s Club.
