Baptist Cancer Center in Oxford, Miss., began offering a new breast radiotherapy called AccuBoost®,which gives radiation oncologists greater power to precisely target breast cancer, specifically for lumpectomy patients.
The cancer center began offering this new technology in early November.
Using a powerful, image-guided beam, radiation oncologists can accurately and reliably deliver targeted radiation to the lumpectomy site, limiting unintentional exposure to otherwise healthy tissue.
Non-invasive and painless, AccuBoost® delivers lower doses of radiation to the skin, minimizing complications. Applicators are strategically placed to deliver a beam of radiation to the breast tissue. The real-time image guided radiation therapy (IGRT) precisely targets tissue, eliminating any guesswork.
