New Nurses at MBMC Enjoy the Clinical Nurse Residency Program

The Clinical Nurse Residency (CNR) program at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center welcomes a new group of nursing graduates twice a year – in March for December graduates and in August for May graduates. The program uses interactive learning and evidence-based content to bridge the gap between nursing school and working at the hospital.

Some of the most popular sessions include Mock Codes, IV Start Tips, Escape Room and Hospital Treasure Hunt. For the last session, nurses use their new skills to assist mock patients in a quest to “Escape a Bad Outcome.”

“The CNR program is vital as it nurtures our new nurses, instilling in them the skills, confidence and resilience needed to flourish in their careers,” said MBMC Nurse Staff Development Specialist Rebecca Smith. “By offering a supportive environment, this program not only enhances patient care, but also cultivates a sense of belonging and purpose among our new nurses, ensuring a strong foundation for their professional journey ahead.”

Rebecca said the program has received positive feedback from the hospital’s new nurses, and she believes it helps them build confidence. She co-leads the CNR program with fellow MBMC Nurse Staff Development Specialist Beth Chandler.

Nurses in the program meet once a month for nine months. The CNR program, which begins in December, typically has about 25 nursing graduates, while the group beginning in March usually has about 50 participants.
