Delbert Hosemann, Mississippi’s lieutenant governor, recently toured Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto and Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County and met with Baptist leadership teams.
On Friday, July 7, Lt. Gov. Hosemann and Mississippi state senators Michael McLendon and Kevin Blackwell met with Baptist DeSoto’s leadership team and Chris Anderson, VP of operations for Baptist’s metro-Memphis market, and Keith Norman, vice president of government affairs and chief community relations officer. They discussed the state of the health care system in Mississippi and what is needed to continue providing excellence in the whole continuum of care, including behavioral health and acute care.

Hosemann met with Mississippi state representative Sam Creekmore IV; James Grantham, VP of operations for Baptist’s Mississippi market; Ann Bishop, CEO/administrator of Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County and Baptist Memorial Hospital-Booneville; and hospital and physician leaders at Baptist Union County on Thursday, July 13. Topics discussed include the financial impact of COVID-19 on rural hospitals, nursing and staffing concerns, Medicaid expansion and mental health.
