Mississippi Baptist Medical Center (MBMC) and Baptist Heart collaborated with the American Heart Association and local businesses for STEM Goes Red, held at the Mississippi Children’s Museum on Monday, Oct. 28. Nearly 100 Jackson Public Schools middle school students attended the event, designed to inspire and empower young women to pursue careers in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math).
STEM Goes Red events give young women tools and resources to pursue their dreams, including firsthand experiences with professionals working in STEM. At the Mississippi event, students met with leaders from MBMC, Ergon, Nissan and the Bean Path.
“This is the first time for a STEM Goes Red event in our area, and we recognize the need to educate our young students early,” said MBMC Director of Cardiovascular Services Terri Diffy. “It was an honor to participate in this event and collaborate with the American Heart Association. We look forward to next year’s event.”
Team members from MBMC and Baptist Heart demonstrated hands-only CPR and provided education on the heart muscle. Sessions concluded with students donning personal protective equipment for a group photo.
