Mississippi Baptist Medical Center presented its first DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses on Friday, Jan. 27 to Jackie Stiff, ADN, RN, MEDSURG-BC. Jackie joined the Baptist team in 2011. She works on 1 North, one of the hospital’s Medical-Surgical Units.

Jackie was nominated by a patient’s family member who said that she “embodies the true meaning of a servant’s heart, going above and beyond the call each and every shift.”

The nominator also said, “Each morning she worked, we were met with a warm greeting from her, and she made a point to say good night after each of her shifts before leaving. She offered useful insight and genuine encouragement when challenges were encountered or our anxieties grew. She even remembered our favorite flavor of Jell-O for an after-surgery treat!”

Even though MBMC hasn’t started external marketing efforts for DAISY Award nominations, it still received 10 nominations for January. MBMC plans to honor a nurse with the DAISY Award each month going forward.
