Through his YounGameChanger Foundation (YGC), Memphis Grizzlies basketball player Marcus Smart donated two Smart Carts to the Spence and Becky Wilson Baptist Children’s Hospital. The donation will allow the hospital’s child life specialists to responsibly integrate technology into play therapy.
“Each Smart Cart is equipped with tablets and other digital devices that provide access to games and educational opportunities that our patients can use during their stay with us,” said Baptist Children’s Hospital Child Life Specialist Kate Baker. “This will bring so much joy to patients of all ages in our inpatient, intensive care and outpatient units.”
Play therapy is an integral part of the healing process for pediatric patients. Baptist’s child life specialists use play therapy to help normalize patients’ stay in the hospital and to help educate them on what to expect during procedures.
