During the intense summer heat, a group of Baptist Golden Triangle team members, the Lowndes County United Way and Helping Hands joined efforts to beat the heat through a “Fan Drive.”

Hospital team members raised more than $1,700 and gathered 17 new box fans to be distributed to Lowndes County residents living without air conditioning. Nancy Guerry, director of Helping Hands, and Danny Avery, director of Lowndes County United Way, were at Baptist Golden Triangle on Aug. 1 to accept the box fans and the donation.

“The fans will be distributed to needy Lowndes County residents who do not have air conditioning and must choose between cooling their homes or buying necessities like medicine or food,” said Megan Pratt, director of marketing. The money, raised through the marketing department, will be used to purchase additional fans for distribution.

The community service project was coordinated by Community Relations Coordinator Donna Grant and involved selling surplus hospital promotional items, some new hospital promotional items and samples from its inventory.
