The Jimmy Terry Preaching Series on Thursday, Dec. 19 will feature Baptist President and CEO Jason Little as speaker. This is his second time to speak at the series.
“God blessed me and the Baptist organization with the life of Jimmy Terry,” said Mr. Little. “His favorite time of year was always Christmas, and I look forward to speaking at this series during the Advent season.”
Mr. Little noted it’s an honor to speak at the preaching series that was formed as a result of Rev. Terry’s legacy and contribution to Baptist Memorial Health Care. Mr. Little said the goal of the series is to share the hope of the Gospel throughout the organization with anyone who will listen. It’s the same hope Rev. Terry shared with everyone he met.
“Rev. Terry remains one of my greatest heroes in life,” said Mr. Little. “He had a deep influence on me and my faith. His love for Jesus was evident in everything he did.”
Mr. Little recalled that Rev. Terry was a preacher in every sense of the word. He shared the story of the first time they met.
“My job was to escort him by car from his arrival spot to a meeting on the other side of the parking lot a few hundred yards away,” said Mr. Little. “We were tardy. When we arrived and I parked the car, he asked me if I noticed the stop sign I rolled through with my car. In his always loving and generous way, he counseled me that Jesus loved me and my wife did, too, and I was too important to both of them to not come to a complete stop. I said, ‘yes sir,’ and our friendship began.”
Mr. Little’s memories of Rev. Terry are of a man who ordered milk with lunch, hugged everyone he met, always had a Bible in his hand and sang a hymn for anyone who would listen.
“We lost Rev. Terry following an extended illness,” said Mr. Little. “I held his hand and prayed with him in our hospital at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis, but his focus was never on himself. Until the day he passed away, his only concern was to share God’s love with everyone he encountered.”
You can join the sermon in person at noon in Garrett Auditorium, 6027 Walnut Grove Road, on Baptist Memphis’ campus, or view it here at any time.
