The Spence and Becky Wilson Baptist Children’s Hospital hosted its first in-person Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) reunion since the COVID-19 pandemic began, and nearly 1,000 people registered for the event, held on Saturday, Sept. 9.
Funded by the Baptist Memorial Health Care Foundation, the jungle-themed reunion was an opportunity for families to reconnect with the physicians and nurses who cared for their babies. Kids enjoyed bounce houses, face painting, visits with P.D. Parrot and a petting zoo.
The event raised almost $5,000 to support families in the NICU.
“It is such a blessing to host the newborn ICU reunion in person again,” said Allison Bosse, administrator and chief executive officer of Baptist Memorial Hospital for Women and Baptist Children’s Hospital. “The relationship that each family builds with the nurses and medical staff during their stay in the NICU is truly unique, and we love bringing these groups together to celebrate their bond, survival and the significant milestones our NICU grads are meeting.”
