Dr. Tommy Vinson will be the featured speaker for the Rev. Jimmy Terry Preaching Series event on Thursday, March 17 at noon at Garrett Auditorium on the Baptist Memphis campus.
This year marks 54 years of preaching for Dr. Vinson, who has pastored churches in Mississippi, Tennessee and Florida, including First Baptist Church of Winter Park, Florida and First Baptist Church in Collierville. He started pursuing God’s will to preach after his discharge from the U.S. Air Force, where he worked as an air traffic controller in Okinawa, Japan.
In 2013, Dr. Vinson began focusing on an itinerant ministry of teaching and preaching and has served as interim pastor of Germantown Baptist Church for the last year.
Dr. Vinson graduated from the Air Traffic Control Academy, Blue Mountain College, Mid-America Baptist Theological Seminary and Luther Rice Theological Seminary. He formerly served on the executive committee of the Southern Baptist Convention and as president of the Florida Baptist Pastor’s Conference. He and his wife, Rose, share three children, eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
