Dedicated BTS Team Member Raymond Henderson Retires

After serving Baptist for 51 years, Raymond Henderson has retired from his role as a radio frequency wireless engineer with Baptist Technology Services. He has witnessed technological progress since starting at Baptist in 1974, when digital terminals, not desktop computers, were the norm. Fellow team members joined him to celebrate his retirement during a lunch at the Corporate office on Tuesday, Dec. 16.

Henderson began his career at Baptist in 1974 as a food and nutrition porter. In 1975, he became a data control clerk, filing batch jobs recorded on IBM cards, handling report distribution and installing and repairing digital terminals and printers. In 1978, Henderson became a computer operator, followed by an operations supervisor in 1984 and an operations manager in 1993.

“Raymond’s dedication to Baptist has been an inspiration to us all,” said Dan Ellenberger, BTS senior manager of information systems. “He’s helped Baptist transition from a time of very little technology to the immense amounts of high technology currently used all around Baptist.”

In 1993, Henderson became a business analyst II, managing a staff responsible for disaster recovery plans for data centers and business areas for five Baptist Memorial hospitals. In 2007, Henderson moved into his current role as a radio frequency wireless engineer. He was responsible for maintenance and support of the internal pager system, radios and antenna systems for Baptist.

Henderson looks forward to relaxing, spending more time with his family and traveling during his retirement.
