Chickasaw Council Boy Scouts earned a Baptist badge on June 24 at Baptist Women’s Hospital and the Spence and Becky Wilson Baptist Children’s Hospital by participating in three educational rotations and a service project.
First, they built their own first aid kit with 16 different items, and learned how each item is used and what to use in different scenarios.
They learned about Critical Care Transport, met the pediatric transport team, explored the equipment and ambulance, and learned about patient stabilization.
The group met a simulation doll, Hal, an 8-year-old who had an accident jumping on the trampoline. The nurses showed them how to use a tourniquet, clean a wound and bandage and prep the patient for transport. Each scout enjoyed a hands-on experience and practiced their new first aid skills.
Last, for their service project, they provided and painted BUDDY BENCHES for the Baptist Children’s Hospital. Each bench displays a quote, “To have a friend you must be a friend” and “If you can be anything, be kind.”
