Turning 60 was a catalyst for working toward a healthy lifestyle for Ilene Rowser, a Baptist Medical Group oncology patient accounts specialist.
“I wanted to feel better, and I realize as we get older, we have to take care of our bodies if we want our bodies to take care of us.”
Ilene completed the GoHealthy! classes and lost 26 pounds. But even more, she’s learned to incorporate healthy food items into recipes, exercise more and choose healthy snacks.
“I try to eat or drink small meals every few hours to avoid becoming too hungry and going for the bad stuff to snack on.”
Though she had tried diets before, the GoHealthy! classes gave her tools to achieve success this time around.
“I’ve learned to not be afraid to try new foods and recipes,” said Ilene. “I realize a healthy lifestyle is a choice, and I have to live it every day.”
She advises others to be patient.
“You didn’t gain the weight overnight, so don’t look for a quick fix. Take care of yourself, not just for the gift cards Baptist offers, but rather think in terms of it being a gift to yourself.”
