BCC SMASH Cancer Tennis Tournament Raises $25,000

Baptist Cancer Center and Baptist Memorial Health Care Foundation hosted the fourth annual SMASH Cancer Tennis Tournament at Leftwich Tennis Center in Memphis on Saturday, Oct. 19. The event attracted 30 tennis players and raised $25,000 to benefit the Baptist Cancer Center Patient Assistance Fund, which subsidizes care, medication-related expenses, transportation, lodging, meals and other support services for patients who need assistance.

Dr. Jake Lancaster, chief medical officer for Baptist Medical Group and Baptist’s chief medical information officer, and Jared Moses, associate administrator for Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis, both took to the court to help raise funds for the event.

Participants experienced the MEGA Colon, a walk-through, interactive educational exhibit that allows visitors to learn how to improve overall colon health and reduce risks for colorectal cancer. The large-scale model of the human colon shows polyps in the initial stages, advanced polyps, colorectal cancer and Crohn’s disease.
