Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County and Baptist Cancer Center-Bartlett recently announced their Service First Champions, honored for their dedication.
Baptist Union County recognized John Mann, RN, as Service First Champion for the quarter. John serves as head nurse in the surgery department and was nominated by a colleague for his dedication to mentoring high school and medical students.
The colleague stated, “John provides a surgery in-service for each medical student to help them feel comfortable in the operating room and goes above and beyond to ensure they have a great experience.”
The nomination also mentioned that after a student lost her wedding ring, John searched the linen bin until he found the ring and saved the day. John was also previously recognized for his assistance with the Health Care Career Academy hosted by the hospital.
“John’s dedication to mentoring young adults pursuing or interested in health care careers exemplifies what a Service First Champion should be,” said Ann Bishop, Baptist Union County’s CEO and administrator. “It is outstanding team members like John who make a real difference at Baptist Union County and in the lives of our patients and families.”
Baptist Cancer Center-Bartlett named Shri Karafa, RN, as Service First Champion for going above and beyond with her work. Shri serves as head nurse at the center.
Shri’s nominator said, “Shri consistently goes above and beyond in her performance. Bartlett’s Bar Code Scanning is 100% every month and its pump programming compliance is above system goal each time.”
The nomination also mentioned that Shri proactively handles all supply orders for two clinics and often brings attention to any precertification she thinks isn’t accurate or fully completed.
“She does all of this while taking a full patient load. Shri never complains. She is always willing — no matter what the issue — to pitch in. The nurses pull together at Bartlett by covering other sites and each other. I feel this is due to her leading by example,” said the nomination.
