Healthgrades has awarded Baptist Memorial Hospital-Union County the 2026 Patient Safety Excellence Award and the Outstanding Patient Experience Award. Baptist Union County is among the top 10% of hospitals in the country for patient safety and is the only hospital in Mississippi to receive this recognition from Healthgrades.
Healthgrades Patient Safety Excellence Award
The Patient Safety Excellence Award recognizes hospitals for providing top-quality care while preventing serious safety events during hospital visits.

Patients treated in award-winning facilities were significantly less likely to experience the four most common patient safety indicators, which represent a serious, preventable complication — and account for 78% of all safety events. According to Healthgrades’ annual analysis, if all hospitals performed as well as the 2026 Patient Safety Excellence Award winners, 100,819 patient safety events could have been avoided between 2022 and 2024.
The Patient Safety Excellence Award is based on an analysis of inpatient Medicare Provider Analysis and Review data that measures clinical performance across 13 patient safety indicators.
Healthgrades Outstanding Patient Experience Award
This year marks the 12th consecutive year Baptist Union County has been awarded the Outstanding Patient Experience Award. Baptist Union County is the only hospital in Mississippi to earn the Patient Safety Excellence Award and the Patient Experience Award at the same time — and is the only one in the state to receive the Patient Experience Award every year since 2014.
Each year, Healthgrades recognizes the top hospitals nationwide that provide an exceptional experience for patients during their hospital stay. For its 2026 analysis, Healthgrades evaluated Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (HCAHPS) patient survey data from nearly 4,000 hospitals across 10 patient experience measures.
These measures focus on patients’ perceptions of their hospital care, including staff communication, medication explanations and cleanliness. Baptist Union County’s Outstanding Patient Experience Award is the direct result of positive patient feedback in these critical areas.
